Freelander 2 SE arrives |
| Land Rover has added a new ‘value’ model, the Freelander 2 SE to its 2009 range... |
Available with the 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine, the Freelander SE is positioned below the HSE version which has been the mainstay of the model range since it was launched in New Zealand in the middle of last year. The Freelander SE will sell for $59,990.
"Land Rover is well known as the best 4x4 by far and this new model offers a high specification, real SUV at a more competitive price," said Wallis Dumper, the Managing Director of Motorcorp Distributors, the New Zealand Land Rover importer and distributor.
"And we are concentrating on the diesel model with its greater economy and environment benefits at a value price position for a prestige brand."
"The technical and mechanical specification, apart from wheel size is the same as the HSE." "The SE does not sacrifice any of Land Rover's traditional capabilities and our advertising campaign is targeted at new entrants to this market and current customers alike, to remind them that the Freelander 2 SE truly is the son of Range Rover."
The six speed adaptive automatic transmission with command shift four wheel drive remains unchanged with its terrain response system.
Front fog lamps, heated and folding exterior mirrors, rain sensing wipers, headlamps washers and rear park distance control are all standard features. The Freelander SE sits on 17 inch alloy wheels. Leather upholstery with an electrically adjustable driver's seat, black veneer, keyless start, dual climate control air conditioning, cruise control, trip computer, electric windows, steering wheel controls for the six stack CD sound system with six speakers and iPod compatibility are all standard.
Other standard equipment includes split folding rear seats, a leather steering wheel, head restraints for all five seats and a luggage area cover.
ABS brakes with EBA and EBD are fitted, together with the roll stability control system, hill descent control, electronic traction control and dynamic stability control and eight air bags make up a comprehensive safety package. There is remote control central locking an alarm and engine immobiliser and the front seat belts have load limiters and pretensioners.
The Freelander 2 HSE continues to be available at $69,990 and adds the following standard equipment, bi-xenon headlights with automatic levelling control, front park distance control, puddle lamps, 18 inch alloy wheels, dark laurel wood veneer on the dashboard, memory function for the driver's seat settings, front foot well lamps and a higher powered nine speaker sound system.
Mr Dumper concluded - "The Freelander 2 HSE will encounter inevitable price rises in 2009 and its specification will rise further away from the SE. We don't know how long we can hold the SE's pricing but the HSE faces an increase of 10% or more in the New Year. This presents existing Land Rover owners with the reality of potential appreciation and better retained values".
